NPFT stands for Natural Physique Fitness Training.
It was founded in 2010 by veteran physique athlete and nationally certified trainer Alvin Chu.
Training since he was 16, Alvin started in the dungeons of a local YMCA before weight training became as popular as it is today. Learning by books and trial and error, he finally became nationally certified in 1994 by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) as a certified personal trainer. Independent study complemented his undergraduate Bachelors in Education and a Masters in Communications from New York University.
After working a number of office jobs as well as teaching elementary school for ten years, he wrote "Natural Strength Training Secrets for a Superior Physique" in 2010, available on Amazon.com. The book was endorsed by longtime strength-training resource Bill Hinbern and by Dr. Debra Engel, chairperson of the Physical Therapist Assistant Department at CUNY LaGuardia.
Having competed in a number of bodybuilding shows, Alvin's crowning achievement was in winning the title of the 2011 NPA New York State Mens Overall Masters Bodybuilding competition.
Now an independent trainer, Alvin derives maximum satisfaction helping his clients achieve their fitness goals in losing fat, gaining strength, and building functional muscle.
In 2013, Alvin became certified in Total Motion Release physical therapy pain relief Level One, and earned a Senior Fitness Specialty Certification to complement his ACE-renewal. In March 2014, he has completed his corrective exercise screening certification in Functional Movement Systems (FMS) under its founder, Gray Cook.
